Top 10 Tips to improve your websites visibility in the search engines
Tip # 1 – Get Google Analytics & Google Web Master Tools set-up!
It is essential to have the correct measurement and tracking tools working for you so you can measure ROI and use your data to plan how to improve your digital marketing.
Tip # 2 – Submit your website ‘sitemap’ to Google in WMT’s.
This is your way of telling Google to go and crawl your website pages. If you don’t do this then Google will not index your website pages and they will not even be available to users searching online.
Tip # 3 – Know your keywords! Do your research using keyword tools.
Define your keywords for your main websites pages, do some research using keyword tools to identify ‘high traffic’ keywords. Pick 3 keywords per page and make sure they are used in your content.
Tip # 4 – Write strong ‘Meta-Titles’ and ‘Meta-Descriptions’.
This is your way of telling Google what the important keywords on your page are. The meta-description is important for click-through rates; they need to appeal to likely search queries.
Tip # 5 – Register your business on Google Places.
Google gives a weighting to local businesses when listing search results. So for example, if you are registered on Google Places, your website will rank higher for users in your local area.
Tip # 6 – Make sure your Home page is the best page!
Your website home page naturally has the most authority from Google’s perspective. Make sure it has plenty of content, update it regularly and make sure you include your product and service keywords!
Tip # 7 – Help your customer with good page interlinking.
Interlinking is important from both a usability perspective and an SEO perspective. By hyper-linking from 1 page to another, using the keyword as ‘anchor text’ you are passing ‘weight’ on to the recipient page.
Tip # 8 – Set up your social channels & integrate them with your website.
By getting your social channels set-up and displaying the icons on your home page, you are ticking a big SEO box. Without this, your website will not rank as highly in the search engines.
Tip # 9 – Get a blog set-up and write content answering typical Q’s.
The biggest update to Google’s algorithm was the Penguin update, which meant website’s with regular, fresh & high-quality content were given a boost in the search engines. What does this mean?
Update your website regularly!
Tip # 10 – Outreach your content & get those all-important back-links.
Back-links are essential for SEO; they are viewed as ‘votes of authority’ from Google’s perspective. It is ‘Quality’, not ‘Quantity’ that is important and also the domain authority of the linking website.
