The higher your DA, the higher you will rank (theoretically) in Google. This will increase your visibility and result in higher quality website traffic. One of the easiest and quickest ways to leverage your DA is to gain backlinks to your site from high authority sites. A quick win would be to research local business directories with a high DA score and gain a listing that includes a backlink to your site. 

A further opportunity is to approach high authority content publishing sites with original content. As these content publishing firms will be wanting original content themselves, if you produce content for them, this will save them a huge workload. But, make sure you include a backlink to your site! 

As an extra tip, try to approach high domain publishing sites related to your industry. You will benefit from their readership and they should already have an interest in your offering! 

Remove any high spam backlinks

Aforementioned the importance of backlinks from high domain, external sites. But, every once in a while a website with a low domain authority and high spam score could link to your site. Therefore, it is important to go through your link profile and remove any links from high spam sources that could be harming your domain authority. 

Good internal linking structure

As Google’s mission statement is to ‘organise the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful’,  in order to make your site useful, a good internal linking structure is important. Ultimately, when a user lands on your site, you want to provide a good user experience so that they can find what they are looking for – whether that’s to make a purchase or find out information. A good internal link structure will reduce bounce rates and internal links will help make it easier for Google to crawl and index your page. 

Produce original, high quality content

Improving your DA is not all about backlinks, if your site doesn’t include high quality content and information that users are looking for, they will simply exit your page. You must make sure that your content directly answers what users are searching for. Get to the point, answer user questions and engage your audience. If the search engine and users can process your information easily, your DA will gradually improve. 

Don’t ignore your technical SEO!

Amongst other technical SEO improvements, making sure each page on your site has excellent meta titles and meta descriptions. Make sure you are within Google’s recommended character count and directly explain what the page is about. Often meta titles and descriptions can be your brand’s first point of contact with the user – so think of them as a mini ad.

If you reflect on your own consumer habits, you’ll notice your own tendency to sieve through meta descriptions to find the direct answer to the query you typed in. If your meta is poor, consumers won’t click on your page and your SEO and DA can be hindered. In addition, you should remove any internal links throughout your site that might lead to a broken link.
